Riccardo Rudi (Ponte dell’Olio, 1989) lives and works between Milan and Munich. His studies include Communication Design, Politecnico di Milano; Web Design, Bauer Milano; Design for Contemporary Art, EKA Tallinn; Design for Publishing, ISIA Urbino; Sculpture and three-dimensional Design with Olaf Nicolai, AdBK Munich. His artistic practice is a constant dialogue between different dimensions, both methodological, such as the use of ‘critical design’ in art projects, as well as technological, with the attempt to create a dialogue between analogue and digital objects, moving content and creating mediatic metaphors. His works range from film and sound production to editorial production to purely digital works such as websites, videogames and social network interventions. In his work, we find a constant melancholy linked to the themes that most influenced his generation: born without the Internet and witnessed its emergence. The nostalgia for the analogue world and the fascination for the digital one often create a shift on which he focuses his practice. Since 2018, he has been collaborating with artist Simona Andrioletti on various projects such as Sorry Mom, Flüsterpost and Spring Break. He has exhibited at Villa Stuck, Munich (Sorry Mom curated by Roland Wenninger); Museo Novecento, Florence (Chinese Whispers with Simona Andrioletti curated by Sergio Risaliti); Lothringer 13 Halle, Munich (I did not see it coming, curated by Lisa Britzger); Green Cube Gallery (The Struggle is Real, with Superinternet curated by Clusterduck); BBK, Munich (A Tree Is Best Measured When It Is Down curated by Anja Lückenkemper and Julia Maier); Stiftung Federkiel, Munich (Chinese Whispers with Simona Andrioletti curated by Alina Eisner and Karsten Schmitz); Metropol Kunstraum (If your phone doesn’t ring, it’s me curated by Markus Michalke); Halle 6, Munich (Exist, curated by Maria Justus and Torsten Mühlbach); Palazzo Ducale Urbania (Sedimenta curated by Luigi Pieracini); Kanuti Gildi Saal, Tallinn (Poster + Performance curated by Tanel Rander), Museo Pecci Milano (BYOB by Rafaël Rozendaal curated by Domenico Quaranta). He participated in the Longega Project (2017) and Lac o Le Mon (2019) art residence. In 2020, together with Simona Andrioletti, he initiated Spring Break, an itinerant art residency project. In parallel with the artistic practice, he is a co-founder of Art Workers Italia and works as an art director in the cultural field, freelancing with different studios; for several years he collaborates with other artists in the creation of artists’ books and publications. In 2022, together with Simona Andrioletti, he was awarded the “Preis der Akademie aus den Stipendienfonds”.
